Before Turning Point contracted with SMART, we had an independent group (ECRI) research different software systems for automated methadone dispensing, as well as Clinical Software for all of our staff. In their final analysis, they recommended SMART to us, due to its user-friendliness and customer focus. ETS performed a great deal of due diligence before selecting SMART, We wanted a product that would move us more effectively into a new era. I was actually a slow adapter until we met that one that met all our needs. Ninety percent of our patients are public paid, and our provider needed to provide billing and accounting that our homemade system couldn’t accommodate. Boston Public Health Commission chose the SMART software after investigating other software packages. BPHC's OTP Clinic has two sites: one for dosing, the other for counseling, which created a major challenge in providing quality, coordinated care. SMART system provides real time information that allows staff to feel confident in their clinical decisions. In addition, SMART reports provide excellent data for quality improvement projects. The software's ability to track medication inventory greatly reduced staff time, errors and meets all DEA requirements.
SMART team, from the beginning, were excellent in demonstrating the software, providing hands on training, coordinating with BPHC's IT department and providing consultation for staff and trouble shooting.
It is very evident that SMART developed this software with a clear understanding of a methadone program with its complex clinical and regulatory needs. SMART has been our initiation into the world of electronic medical records. Many staff were concerned about the transition, but SMART has proven to be a great fit for us- very user friendly. The installation, training, and the support we have received from the SMART team has been outstanding.
From the perspective of our Office Support Team there has been an improvement in communication within all departments and most importantly with our patients. The Smart system makes my job easier because I am able to input information into the system much faster, the program is detailed and at you fingertips. Some of the forms are already in the system so that there is less paperwork and less running around for the hard copy chart (especially when looking for signed releases of information.)
The treatment plan is fantastic! It makes it easier for me to be able to put a plan together. It is one of the greatest features! Also the psycho-social summary is direct and straight to the point. |
