David L. Piccoli, II President and CEO
David established SMART Management, Inc. as the vehicle to design operations software for his substance abuse treatment clinics located in five states. The result was software that set the tone for excellence in clinic management software, and the SMART software system is now used in clinics throughout the world. Mr. Piccoli graduated from Roger Williams College and is a licensed helicopter pilot. In 2005, he established the Ishi Dojo Youth Center, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit in Providence’s South Side to provide physical and nutritional programs to increase well-being and self-esteem for children at risk. He is a resident of Jamestown, RI, where he resides with his wife Gilda and their four children.
Peter F. Morris Chief Operating Officer
As one of the first members of our team, Peter has been with SMART since 1993. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Bryant College. Previously Vice President of Finance at SMART, Peter helped establish our fiscal and financial goals and ensured that we kept a steady course. He not only has the professional skills of finance and management, but he also thoroughly understands and embraces our corporate culture of customers first in everything we do. When he is not deep into his work, he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, traveling and exploring the countryside on his ATV. He is also a big fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. Peter resides in Johnston, RI along with his wife Heather and two daughters, Ava and Sophie.
Paul LeBeau Vice President
Paul helped establish SMART, and since that time he has led the team that created the industry’s pioneering clinical operations package, Smart2K. Prior to joining SMART in 1992, Paul worked with MIT to develop the first multi-user operating system for an IBM Series 1 minicomputer and created systems for various companies including an accounting and manufacturing software system for the world’s largest costume jewelry manufacturer, and pioneered the use of computers to support live coverage of local and national elections by a local network television station.
Paul earned an MBA with high honors at Bryant College and is a member of the Delta-Mu-Delta Honor Society. He is a resident of Cranston, RI, where he resides with his wife Sandy and their Shetland Sheepdog, Sadie. His hobbies of motorcycling, home improvement, woodworking and an occasional round of golf provide relief from the intensity of software development.
Michael Carruthers Sales & Installations
Michael first began his career as the Program Director for Discovery House in 1997. Using his first-hand knowledge of clinic operations, he became National Operations Manager in 1999. In 2000 he joined the SMART Software Division as the Assistant Director.
Michael is originally from Colorado and now makes his home in Providence, RI. Michael is single and enjoys the great amount of travel required by his position. When he is not on the road, he finds time for the game of basketball.
Neng Jian Senior Programmer
Neng joined SMART in 2001 as a Senior Software Engineer who held similar positions with software companies in Rhode Island and Connecticut. He was very instrumental in developing SMART’s pure Java application. Neng holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Rhode Island. He was a champion chess player in high school and ranked the No. 5 individual in the nation in his category. Neng is a resident of Cranston, RI, where he resides with his wife and two daughters. His hobbies today are outdoor sports and brain teaser games.
Emily Corbett Systems Analyst
Emily is a prime example of a dedicated professional whose commitment to quality in all aspects of her job led her from a Discovery House clinic to Systems Analyst in the Software Division of SMART. She holds two degrees—a BA in Psychology from the University of Rhode Island and a MA in Counseling from Rhode Island College. Emily is a history buff whose hobbies are genealogy research and historical cemetery photography. She is married and lives in Warwick, RI.
Ann-Marie Reid-Richardson Operations Director
Ann-Marie has been with SMART / Discovery House since 2007. She began her career here as a Program Director in the Woonsocket, RI clinic. Her position at SMART has transitioned from the Discovery Group to the Software Division where she currently works as the process manager, primarily identifying and improving those processes to help improve and refine the software development process. In 2007, she was honored by receiving the organization’s “Threshold Award”. She is a graduate of Providence College Summa Cum Lade and is a member of Alpha Sigma Lambda Society. Ann-Marie never stops in her personal goals for improvement. She also has a BS in Health Service Administration from Providence College and had begun pursuing a Master’s degree at Brandeis University.
Ann-Marie is married with three children. She enjoys outdoor activities such as bicycling and hiking especially in our national Parks, she is an avid reader, and loves to cook!
Maurice Smith Customer Relations Manager
Maurice joined the SMART team in 2012. He oversees the customer relationship team and ensures that customers receive great customer service – total focus on delight. Prior to joining SMART, Maurice built and managed programs and projects for several world-class customer support organizations in the financial, healthcare, managed care, consumer products, business, Internet, telecommunication and healthcare industries. Maurice is originally from the Island of Jamaica and now makes Boston, Massachusetts his home. He is an avid New England Patriots fan and enjoys running, working out, and spending quality time with his family.
Martin Bennett Customer Relations Team Leader
Martin Bennett has been with SMART for 4 years, and recently has taken the lead position for the Support Team. Martin has his BSc in Information Science and also worked as a Telecommunications Engineer in the United Kingdom where he was born and raised. His current duties at SMART involve providing technical support to his Team as they work solving customer issues, installing and updating sites and being part of the team that is charged with delivering software solutions to reported problems. Martin has distinguished himself during his time at SMART through his technical expertise and his approach to customer relationships. He is our link between Support and Customers and as such plays a vital role for SMART. If you happen to have the opportunity to speak with Martin, keep in mind that he is married and has three sons, loves gadgets and gaming, and is a fan of cricket and Soccer and loves to write the occasional story.
Kathy Cattles Quality Assurance & Testing
Kathy joined SMART in 2011. She has 26 years of previous experience in the healthcare field. She is a graduate of CCRI with an A.S. She currently lives in Cranston RI with her son Billy and her dog. Kathy loves the beach, traveling, music, reading and spending time with her family and friends.
Robert Kornacki Director of Development & Marketing
Robert Kornacki brings over 19 years of healthcare experience to SMART Management as Director of Development and Marketing. Since joining SMART Management in 2004, Rob has demonstrated a keen ability to create key relationships in new and emerging markets; ensuring trust and confidence that Discovery House is a key community resource. Rob’s unique range of experiences with direct multi-site facility management and community relations has been invaluable to the SMART Management/Discovery House organization.
Prior to joining SMART Management Inc., Rob spent 6 years with the Rhode Island Department of Health in Facilities Regulation before he relocated to New Jersey to begin his career in outpatient substance abuse treatment. While in New Jersey, Rob ran three opiate treatment programs, leading each through their first JCAHO accreditation.
He is driven to improving access to treatment and views every new clinic or service as creating a means for people to change their lives and an opportunity to serve that community. He is dedicated to raising awareness of the positive impact treatment can have on a community and of new pharmacological treatments that can be used as an adjunct to conventional addiction therapy.
Rob holds a BA in Economics from Franklin and Marshall College. His interest include spending time with his family Kim, Ryan, and Will, marathons, fitness, and outdoors sports.
